I had always used Canon cameras and was familiar with the software and ergonomics. I came across this body and liked some of the features. I picked it up and used it off and on for several years. Verdict? I still prefer Canon cameras, BUT, this camera has several things going for it. At the time it was made it was the smallest of the Nikon line to use the screw drive motor. The D50 is still the only “entry-level” Nikon DSLR to have the autofocus motor (screw drive) built into the camera body, making the camera backwards-compatible with mechanical-drive autofocus lenses (Nikkor AF series) dating back to 1989. This feature has been eliminated on current entry-level models and is currently only available on mid-range and advanced models. This makes the D50 the lightest Nikon DSLR to have the autofocus motor. As we know, Nikon F mounts are backward and forward compatible and standard back thru the MF lenses. This allows the use of LOTS of older (read cheap) optically superior lenses. This along with some mount adapters and you can have lots of fun experimenting with lenses. (I sure did). Next it uses Secure Digital (SD) instead of CompactFlash (CF) cards as found on previous Nikon digital SLRs and found on many current designs. This eliminates the issues that can be found on bodies with CF cards and bent pins. The CF cards are also smaller and easier to carry. Otherwise, I liked the ergonomics. I missed the Canon rear wheel. I liked the on-off switch. Picture quality was on par with other Canon bodies I have owned, with colors a little warmer than the Canons, in my opinion. So! This Christmas my wife gave me a new Canon T6i. Functionally it is sound and as far as I know, without issues. The body is clean and without scary marks. There are a few light marks, but nothing that indicates a drop down a flight of stairs. All of the external buttons work as designed and without stickiness or weirdness. The control knobs turn smoothly and operate fine. Internally, the firmware still operates as new. The 2.0 inch rear display is in excellent condition and has a tough type plastic screen protector in place. The relevant contacts are clean and without heavy pitting or corrosion. The viewfinder is clear and operable. The shutter button operates smoothly and the shutter trips cleanly. Overall, it looks generally clean and unmolested. The D50 is a 6.1-megapixel entry-level digital single-lens reflex camera, sold from June 2005 until November 2006 by Nikon. It was Nikon's first DSLR aimed at the consumer market, and sold for US$899. It uses the Nikon F mount. It has a 1.6 crop factor and uses the Nikon F mount. I am selling the body only, but. I have several older MF lenses that I used with this body and LOVED them The ISO range is 200–1600 in 1 EV step. It uses 5 zone selectable focus points with. Programmed and manual exposure modes are: Automatic, Portrait, Landscape, Child, Sport, Closeup, Night Portrait, Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Programmed Auto. It does have onboard auto pop-up flash and is TTL with hotshoe. The shutter is an electronically controlled, focal-plane shutter capable of speeds from 1/4,000 to 30 seconds with bulb mode. Continuous shooting is 2.5 frame/s, up to a total of 12 frames. This can be somewhat dependant on the speeds of the memory card. Images are stored as both JPEG and RAW files. As included are the 2 “kit” type lenses that cover the 18-200mm focal range. The smaller is a Nikon AF-S DX 18-55 1:3.5-5.6 zoon lens. The mount is Nikon F mount and plastic. It is structurally sound and mechanically operable. As a less expensive lens, there is less of the smoothness that is found on the higher end all metal frames. However, it functions fine. The lens is very clear and the glass is scratch free. For a zoom, it is very clear of dust and lint. This is the “kit” lens that was bundled with many Nikon cameras. Even so, it is a very nice lens. It features the silent wave motor, Nikon’s extra low dispersion glass (ED), Aspherical lens elements, manual or automatic focus and a close focus range of less than 1 foot. Weight is just a little over 7oz. Again, it operates fine and functions as designed. The larger is a Nikon AF-S DX 55-200 1:4-5.6 zoom lens. The mount is Nikon F mount and plastic. It is structurally sound and mechanically operable. Like the other as a less expensive lens, there is less of the smoothness that is found on the higher end all metal frames. However, it functions fine. The lens is very clear and the glass is scratch free. For a zoom, it is very clear of dust and lint. This is the “kit” lens that was bundled with many Nikon cameras. Even so, it is a very nice lens. It features the silent wave motor, Nikon’s extra low dispersion glass (ED), Aspherical lens elements, manual or automatic focus. Again, it operates fine and functions as designed. I am also including 2 batteries and a home/travel charger. The batteries take and hold a charge just fine. Not that you would be swapping out batteries. Nikon claims 2000 shots per charge on the Nikon EN-EL3 family of batteries. The travel charger is a neat little aftermarket unit that operates AC or DC. The cigarette adapter is included and batteries can be charged from a typical vehicle accessory socket. Finally I am including a new, unused Chinese wireless remote shutter. For the record, I am not a pawn shop or eBay business. I’m just a country boy with WAY too many toys. Please ask questions, I try and watch my email when I have auctions running.
